See What’s Up

Is it your first time on a stand-up paddleboard (SUP) or trying yoga? Awesome! Come join us and get your feet wet. We’ll set you up with everything you need for your first SUP yoga adventure. You’ll find all the information that you need to get prepared for your first class on this page. If you have questions contact us!

What to Wear

Clothing: Quick-dry athletic tops and bottoms are recommended. Wear clothes that can get wet and will be comfortable to move and stretch in.

Sun Protection: Wear sunscreen and a secure hat or sunglasses, to keep the sun out of your eyes. It is highly recommended to leave expensive sunglasses at home unless you have a way to secure them to yourself. Peppers makes floating polarized sunglasses – great for bright sun on the water!

What to Leave at Home

There is no storage available on land, so please leave bags, purses and valuables at home. Your instructor will have a dry bag with room for car keys and small wallets. If you want to bring your phone, be sure to have a waterproof case for it, or put it in a ziplock bag. But remember, this will not keep it from sinking. Adding a piece of styrofoam to the bag will help it float, but please make sure the bag won’t sink before getting into deep water!

SUP 101

Paddle Instruction & Anchor: Before heading out, you will be given brief paddle instruction on land. Paddle from your knees as you leave shore. If you start feeling comfortable there and want to stand up, give it a whirl! Before beginning practice, you’ll drop an anchor to prevent your board from drifting away. The yoga class is for all levels (unless otherwise noted) and modifications are always offered to make class accessible for everyone.

Stability: Stand-up paddling is easy to pick up and the boards that we use are wide and very stable. Green Lake has calm flat water, making it one of the best locations for SUP yoga in Seattle. However, it’s guaranteed that you will get a little bit wet. While not common, there is a chance that you will fall in. Your instructor will coach you on how to get back on the board before we leave shore, and will assist you back on if needed.

Swim Experience: It’s highly recommended that you know how to swim and are comfortable with the idea that you will get wet. Your instructor is trained in rescue techniques – safety is our top priority.

Getting Here

We launch in front of Green Lake Boat Rentals on the northeast side of Green Lake. We’ll meet next to our SUP Yoga Seattle sign. It is recommended to arrive about 15 minutes before class to allow enough time to find parking and get to the Green Lake Boat House.
